Additive Masterbatches:
PPA (Polymer processing aid) masterbatches are designed to improve processes and production utilizing polyolefins and are generally used at levels of 400 to 1500 PPM. The use of PPA Masterbatches also enables good dispersion.
These Masterbatches are based on Fluoro-elastomers and are widely recommended for improving the processibility and clarity of polymers at higher shear rates. They are formulated to form a microscopic dispersed phase within the polymer carrier. During processing, the fluoropolymer gets coated on the die and the walls of the extruder. This results in reduction of melt fracture and, consequently, lesser extruder backpressure. Essentially, it reduces the friction between polymeric materials with screw, barrel & die.
To achieve the coating in a sufficiently quickly, the masterbatch is typically added at 1500 PPM initially and the rate can subsequently be reduced to 500 PPM or even 250 PPM as long as the effect continues to be evident.
PPA is generally used in:
Other advantages of PPA include:
* Eliminates Die build up
* Lowers the gel formation
* Eliminates melt fracture
* Gloss of the product will improve
* High productivity
* Reduces processing temperature
* Even transparency
* Improvement in get-up of LDPE/LLDPE Film also improve due to Processing additives
